Technology, Telecommunications, and Media Policy
In the 21st century, technology facilitates how civil rights are exercised, protected, and violated. Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC recognizes that Asian American communities face unique barriers in the digital landscape, including language isolation, targeted surveillance, and algorithmic discrimination. Throughout the nation, nearly half of our communities struggle with internet affordability and broadband access. Those who are online are often subject to nontransparent automated decision-making systems, vulnerable to invasive surveillance practices, or are the targets of harmful misinformation campaigns.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC’s Technology, Telecommunications and Media Policy Team works at this intersection of digital equity and civil rights. From protecting immigrants against mass government surveillance to ensuring AI tools work fairly across non-English languages, we address the spectrum of technology issues affecting Asian Americans. We advocate for a digital landscape where all communities can safely access information and opportunities, maintain cultural connections, and fully participate in civic life without exclusion or fear.
We co-chair the AAPI Technology Table, a coalition of national Asian American and Pacific Islander organizations that engage with policymakers and the technology industry to elevate our collective voice on technology policy.
