Voting Rights
This handbook is intended to be an advocacy tool that provides an introduction to language voting assistance and to the role you can play to ensure that Section 203-covered jurisdictions are complying with the law so that Asian American citizens can freely exercise their right to vote. The handbook will discuss how to determine whether your community qualified for language voting assistance under Section 203, how to obtain such assistance, and the types of assistance you can expect to receive.

Political Power
Voting Rights
We work to eliminate discriminatory barriers to voting, to enforce the Voting Rights Act (VRA) whenever necessary, and advocate for its restoration.
We provide technical assistance and training on many voter-related issues, including language assistance mandated by the VRA, voter suppression, and election reform.
Equal Protection
Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity
We work to preserve the consideration of race as a factor in admissions in higher education, and to prevent Asian Americans from being used as a wedge group.
Language Access
We advocate for the elimination of language barriers in government services, including improvements in the provision of interpretation services and translated documents for limited English proficient (LEP) individuals.
Court Blocks Proof-of-Citizenship Requirements for Voters in Three States
- Contact
WASHINGTON, DC – A federal appeals court has blocked Kansas, Alabama, and Georgia from adding proof-of-citizenship requirements to the federal mail voter registration form. Advancing Justice | AAJC and sixteen other civil rights and voting groups filed an amicus brief, explaining how the challenged requirements disenfranchise voters.
Racial Justice
Moving Forward, Together
The United States has reached a new phase in our long struggle for equal rights and social justice for all members of the American community. We have spent the last few years watching police brutality against communities of color, targeting and surveillance of black and brown communities, and the vilification of immigrants.
