Washington, DC – December 10, 2016 – Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, applauds Senator Dick Durbin’s (D-IL) and Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-IL) introduction of the Bridge Act and their support of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals initiative (DACA). President-Elect Trump has promised to terminate the DACA program, which allows certain undocumented people who came to the United States as children to obtain temporary protection from deportation and work authorization.
One month after the election of Donald Trump, Asian Americans Advancing Justice takes stock of the post-election landscape. While many details are not yet clear, we do have a sense of the looming challenges on civil rights and social justice issues. We examine what lays ahead for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities on issues such as DACA, deportations, targeting of Muslims, hate attacks, the Affordable Care Act, voting rights, educational access, and the 2020 Census. Follow-up webinars will be scheduled to focus specifically on each issue.
