The letter was sent to Speaker Paul Ryan, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Charles Schumer against attacks to the family diversity visa program. The letter is led by Asian Americans Advancing Justice, the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, NAKASEC, and the UndocuBlack Network and signed by over 100 national, state and local organizations.
After a Bangladeshi national detonated an improvised explosive device Monday morning near a Port Authority bus terminal in New York, calls for an immigration overhaul grew louder — led by President Donald Trump.
"The lottery system and chain migration — we are going to end them fast. Congress must get involved immediately, and they are involved immediately, and I can tell you we have tremendous support, they will be ended," Trump said Tuesday.
Chain migration refers to people sponsoring family members to come to the U.S.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice Condemns Statements By the White House and Attorney General Scapegoating Immigrants

Washington, D.C. – The President called on Congress to end our family immigration system, which he calls “chain migration,” based on yesterday’s isolated attack in New York. Attorney General Jeff Sessions wrongly joined the call to end the family immigration system and the diversity lottery, vilifying all immigrants who do not enter via a “merit-based system”.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice, a coalition of five civil rights organizations, issued the following statement:
We must not make the same mistake now that the United States did during World War II.
At the beginning of World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, now remembered as a shameful precedent in our nation’s history. With Roosevelt’s signature, my father, Fred T. Korematsu, and almost 120,000 other Japanese Americans were unconstitutionally incarcerated on the theory that they would be disloyal and engage in espionage against the United States.

Washington, D.C. – As more details become available about the meeting between the White House and Congressional leaders on Thursday, civil rights organizations are calling attention to the White House’s efforts to get Congress to eliminate the family immigration system and diversity lottery in exchange for passage of legislation for more than a million immigrant youth whose lives hang in the balance since the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was terminated by the Trump administration on September 5th.

Washington, D.C. — Today, the United States Supreme Court issued an order allowing the Trump administration's Muslim Ban to take full effect as legal challenges move forward in lower courts. This ruling will greatly restrict travelers from six Muslim-majority countries – including Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, and Chad – from entering the United States.

Mumbai: The US department of homeland security (DHS) has released data according to which nearly 46100 Indian citizens obtained US citizenship in 2016. Mexicans tops the list, though their numbers have been decreasing gradually after US President Trump announced anti-immigration policies.
The year 2016 saw an increase of 24% with a total of 9.72 lakh applications applied for US citizenship. In 2015, 7.83 lakh applications were filed.

Mumbai: Nearly 46,200 odd Indians obtained US citizenship during 2016, making them the second largest group, even as Mexicans continued to top the chart. Indians accounted for 6% of the total citizenship conferred by the US government on 7.53 lakh individuals during the fiscal year 2016 (period between October 1, 2015 up to September 30, 2016), according to recent data released by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
