Asian Americans Advancing Justice Outraged by Destructive Reconciliation Bill’s Passage in House of Representatives

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives narrowly passed the Reconciliation Bill, betraying the American people and abandoning the values that established this country as a beacon of hope, freedom and justice. The legislation will now go directly to President Trump, who has made clear he intends to sign this destructive package into law by July 4.
This document was designed specifically for advocacy with moderate lawmakers and is meant to address common misconceptions about mass deportations. We strongly believe that immigrants are integral to our communities, not just because they contribute to the economy, but because we believe in the freedom to move in search of safety or a better life.
On July 3rd, 2025, the House of Representatives passed the Reconciliation Bill in a 218-214 vote, and the President signed it into a law the next day, July 4th. This bill’s main purpose is to cut funding for essential health and nutrition programs in order to attack immigrant communities and extend tax cuts for the wealthy.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC Denounces Termination of Temporary Protected Status for Nepali Immigrants

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it will terminate temporary protected status (TPS) for Nepal in 60 days. At that time, approximately 8,000 TPS holders, many of whom have been in the U.S. for over a decade, will be at risk of deportation.
TPS holders should connect with trusted legal providers to see if they qualify for other types of relief.
