WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it will terminate the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation of Burma (Myanmar). The move will impact nearly 4,000 Burmese TPS holders and thousands of other eligible individuals in the U.S., leaving them vulnerable to detention and deportation.
TPS holders should connect with trusted legal providers to see if they qualify for other types of relief.

The number of refugees admitted to the country will be capped at 7,500—the lowest since the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program was established in 1980.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On October 7, 2025, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unlawfully arrested and detained Yaakub Vijandre, a Filipino American advocate and photojournalist, at gunpoint. Vijandre is a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient who has lived in the United States lawfully since 2001.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Friday, President Trump signed a proclamation that purported to restrict the entry of new H-1B visa holders unless the visa holder or their corporate sponsor pays a one-time fee of $100,000 (previously $2,000-5,000), effective as of Sunday.
Civil Rights Groups Respond to Court’s Decision Allowing Refoulement of West African Immigrants

WASHINGTON – Late last night, a federal court denied a request to block the removal of West African immigrants who were unlawfully detained and deported to Ghana – effectively allowing the United States and Ghanaian government to send them to situations of imminent danger (refoulement).
A new lawsuit against the Trump administration alleges that five migrants were unlawfully deported to Ghana, with four enduring the 16-hour flight in “straitjackets,” to circumvent restrictions against sending them back to their home countries.
