Disinfo Defense League Letter for the Record to U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Media, and Broadband
Advancing Justice | AAJC joins other members of the Disinfo Defense League in signing onto a letter to the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee outlining calls to adopt comprehensive digital privacy legislation. The Disinfo Defense League, or DDL, is a network of over 200 community-based organizations collectively working against disinformation campaigns that deliberately target Black, Latinx, Asian American, and other communities of color.

Advancing Justice – AAJC strongly supports the nominations of Jessica Rosenworcel and Gigi B. Sohn to serve as chair and commissioner, respectively, of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and joins with The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights coalition of more than 230 national organizations to urge their swift confirmation.
At a time when access to reliable, diverse news and information, as well as affordable broadband and communications, is paramount, a fully staffed Federal Communications Commission is top priority for the nation. Ms. Rosenworcel and Ms. Sohn are exemplary nominees for Chairwoman and Commissioner of the FCC, and it is critical that they are confirmed as soon as possible to restore the FCC to its full capacity. Washington, D.C.—President Joe Biden signed the bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that passed last week in Congress. The bill includes investments in America’s roads and bridges and increases access to broadband internet, making the largest investment in American infrastructure in more than a decade.

Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, President Biden nominated Acting Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel to be permanent Chair of the Federal Communications Commission. Rosenworcel would become the first woman to lead the FCC. President Biden also nominated Gigi Sohn to be a Commissioner of the FCC, which would make Sohn the first openly LGBTQ individual in the position.

The Asian American community became the target for those looking to blame COVID-19 on someone. Instantly, our community was dealing with the dual pandemic of the coronavirus and racism. Several politicians stoked those embers of hate with rhetoric that firmly put a bullseye on the back of every Asian American.
