Director of Telecommunications, Technology & Media Emily Chi submits written testimony for the Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Elections

On April 28, Director of Telecommunications, Technology & Media Emily Chi testified before the United States House of Representatives Committee on House Administration Subcommittee on Elections Hearing on “A Growing Threat: The Impact of Disinformation Targeted at Communities of Color."

Mis- and disinformation presents an increasingly pervasive problem in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities; spreading harmful myths, destabilizing democratic institutions and processes, and instilling tension and violence in and against the community. However, most existing efforts to combat mis- and disinformation in the United States are exclusively focused on English-language content that centers mainstream content and users. These mainstream efforts fail to consider the specific cultural nuances and community-specific messaging that make AAPI communities uniquely vulnerable to certain mis- and disinformation narratives.
