Washington, D.C. Asian Americans Advancing Justice - AAJC President and Executive Director, John C. Yang, issues a statement on U.S. Supreme Court's decision and historic victory for redistricting.

Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC celebrates the Supreme Court's ruling in Allen v. Milligan that struck down Alabama's revised congressional maps as racially discriminatory. The ruling affirms that the maps violate the Voting Rights Act by diminishing the voting power of Black voters.

"We celebrate this victory in the ongoing battle for voting rights and applaud the community organizers, advocates, lawyers, and community members that came together to stand for freedom and democracy. Today, the Court took a crucial step towards affirming Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act by addressing the manipulation of district lines that limit fair representation of communities of color.

"While we celebrate the victory, our work is far from over. We must continue to fight for fair congressional maps across the country to ensure all voters, especially Asian Americans who continue to be one of the fastest growing electorates, have an opportunity for fair maps and equitable representation. Our commitment to a fair and inclusive electoral process remains resolute. A thriving multiracial democracy depends on every voter's voice being heard. We will press forward, united in purpose, to build the nation we deserve.”
