Webtoon are teaming up1 with 88rising and the advocacy group Asian American Advancing Justice (AAJC) for a new webcomic called “Illuminated.” The series focuses on Asian women in high-profile fields, and is designed to dispel myths surrounding Asian people in modern society. The comic features stories based on the lives of Olympic athletes, musicians, and more. Additionally, “Illuminated” is being used to help bring attention to the #StopAsianHate movement while empowering Asians from all walks of life.

The groups urge all of us to talk about the Coronavirus related hate crimes and racial discrimination incidents occurring against Asian Americans while they gather with friends and family in-person or virtually this Thanksgiving.

The Asian Pacific American Media Coalition (“APAMC”) today heralded the premiere of two new television series on cable networks that feature South Asian Americans: the unscripted FAMILY KARMA on Bravo and the animated MIRA: THE ROYAL DETECTIVE on Disney Junior.

For years, APAMC has advocated for greater diversity and inclusion of Asian Americans in Hollywood-produced programming. There has been a welcome recent increase in South Asian American talent on TV but many of these roles were in ensembles or for characters who supported the stars.

Fox Gets ‘F’ On Asian American Representation Report Card After Withholding Diversity Data

Major TV networks just received scores on the inclusion of individuals of Asian descent.

The Asian Pacific American Media Coalition released its annual report card2 last week, scoring ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC on their progress toward diversity and inclusion of Asian Americans in the 2017-2018 season. And, yet again, Fox did not provide diversity data to the APAMC, leading to the network receiving a grade of F/Incomplete.

More than 22 million Asian Americans and nearly 1.6 million Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders live in the U.S.  And 92 percent of Asian Americans are immigrants or the children of immigrants and nearly two-thirds of all Asian Americans today are foreign-born.
