Sofia Costas
Sofia Costas is the Assistant Director for Strategic Communications at Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC.
Sofia brings nearly a decade of experience leading high-impact communications campaigns across the civil rights and advocacy landscape. As the Assistant Director for Strategic Communications, Sofia works on messaging, media strategy, and narrative development to advance civil rights, expand access to democracy, and elevate the voices of Asian American communities nationwide.
Before joining Advancing Justice | AAJC, Sofia was the Senior Manager for Strategic Communications at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. In that role, she spearheaded major national campaigns integrating narrative change, earned media, and digital strategy. She led rapid-response communications during critical political and legal developments, coordinated messaging across a coalition of more than 200 organizations and secured high-level media coverage.
Previously, Sofia worked at GQR Research, where she supported political and public interest campaigns with public opinion research and message development. Sofia has extensive experience developing culturally responsive messaging and outreach strategies for multilingual audiences.
She holds a master’s degree in media and strategic communications from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Florida.
