Ejaz Baluch
Ejaz Baluch is a Senior Staff Attorney in the Litigation team at Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, where he advocates in the courts on key civil rights issues impacting Asian Americans and immigrant communities.
Prior to joining Advancing Justice | AAJC, Ejaz was a senior trial attorney in the Employment Litigation Section of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division. He primarily represented the United States to enforce federal law prohibiting employment discrimination. Ejaz also defended the United States against challenges to programs that supported underserved communities. Beyond his litigation work, he helped lead the Section’s Amicus and Statement of Interest Working group, where he authored Statements of Interest in cases involving novel questions of Title VII interpretation. In addition, he served on the Division’s Stop AAPI Hate Working Group. He joined the Department through the Attorney General’s Honors Program.
While at the Department of Justice, Ejaz completed a detail with the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders as an Advisor in 2024. There, he worked with federal government agencies to address incidents of Anti-Asian hate and discrimination and promote greater data disaggregation for AA and NHPI subgroups.
Prior to joining the Department, Ejaz held the 2018–2019 Francis D. Murnaghan, Jr. Appellate Advocacy Fellowship at the Public Justice Center, where he served as lead and amicus counsel in appellate litigation advancing civil rights and poverty law. Ejaz has also clerked for Chief Judge George L. Russell, III of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. He is a graduate of The George Washington University Law School.
Before becoming an attorney, Ejaz taught middle school social studies with Baltimore City Public Schools. He holds an M.A. in Urban Education from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park.
