Washington, D.C. — President Joe Biden announced Wednesday additional action steps to respond to the growing number anti-Asian hate crimes and hate incidents, as well as ways to better protect the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities.

March 26, 2021—Washington, D.C.— Today, governors from 26 states and territories issued a joint statement addressing and condemning the rise in anti-Asian hate. In that statement, the governors make clear that: "What is happening to Asian Americans is simply un-American. We condemn racism, violence, and hatred against our AAPI communities, and we must do more to protect, lift up, and support the Asian American community."

Countering the surge in Asian-American discrimination

WASHINGTON D.C. - Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest integrated, nonprofit health care organization, has committed $5.4 million to combat the surge in violence against people of Asian descent and to support the rights, health, and wellness of the Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities. Racial prejudice toward these groups predates the COVID-19 pandemic but has recently increased as pejorative connections between COVID-19 and people of Asian heritage have fueled xenophobic, anti-Asian sentiment and hate crimes.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC (Advancing Justice | AAJC) submits this written testimony to the U.S. House of Representative Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties for its hearing entitled "Discrimination and Violence Against Asian Americans" on March 18, 2021.
Anti-Asian Hate
The Asian American community has long struggled for visibility and equity, and now faces additional physical and mental health harms due to the increase in anti-Asian hate. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Asian American community saw a sharp increase in anti-Asian hate crimes and hate incidents due to the misattribution of the coronavirus to our community. However, anti-Asian hate is not a new phenomenon: from the time our communities first immigrated to the U.S.
