Policy Brief
Racism and discrimination are a reality for members of the Asian American community. In the wake of COVID-19, the Asian American community has faced violent and harmful backlash, including numerous hate crimes and hate incidents. Research shows that Americans are most likely to name ‘China’ as the nation’s greatest enemy, which further contributes to anti-Asian sentiment.
There is growing bipartisan agreement that the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) policies represent one of the greatest threats to U.S. national security. Especially following the rise in anti-China sentiment in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, lawmakers have pursued a policy of increasing confrontation with the CCP, including escalatory economic measures, increased military spending, and ideological competition. Done indiscriminately, this approach often hurts American workers and industry, and alienated American allies with punitive unpredictability.
Automatic Voter Registration (AVR) is generating considerable interest on the part of voting rights advocates, voter modernization proponents, and policymakers as a possible means of improving and increasing voter participation, particularly among those least likely to participate. AVR generally entails a statutory system whereby information about an individual’s voter eligibility that already exists within government databases is then used to register qualified individuals to vote without the individuals themselves needing to take action.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC and Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus filed this brief in support of Dr. Feng “Franklin” Tao and opposes the government’s increased efforts to target and racially profile Asian American scientists and researchers.

The Report Cards revealed some positives but also many areas in which the networks need to improve for Asian Americans to be able to enjoy equal opportunities and to be fully included in the entertainment industry.
On August 2, 2017, President Trump formally endorsed the RAISE Act, which was reintroduced by Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) and Senator David Perdue (R-GA). The RAISE Act would decimate the family-based immigration system and reduce the number of green cards available in any given year by 70%. The new version of the bill replaces the current employment-based system with a points-based system.
