Civil Rights and Academic Groups Deliver Petition to New York University President to Stop Racial Profiling Professors of Asian Descent
Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, American Association of University Professors NYU Chapter (AAUP-NYU), and the Union for Graduate Employees at New York University (GSOC) delivered a petition to NYU President Andrew Hamilton with over 1,100 signatures from the academic community, including NYU faculty, staff, and students, concerned citizens, and community members in response to the unjust suspension and elimination of proper due process protections of two tenured professors of Asian descent at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

Knoxville, TN - Today, the trial against former University of Tennessee (UT) Engineering Professor Anming Hu resulted in a mistrial after the jury deadlocked and failed to reach a verdict. “It is clear that a number of jurors recognized the deep flaws in the case against Dr. Hu,” said John C. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Submits Comment to the National Institutes of Health on the Racial Profiling of Asian Americans and Asian Immigrants
Asian Americans Advancing Justice submitted a comment to NIH raising concerns about the racial profiling of Asian American and Asian immigrant scientists, researchers, and scholars, particularly those of Chinese descent, and urging the agency to take action in addressing NIH’s role in these efforts. Over 220 community organizations, civil rights groups, science associations, academics, and concerned citizens signed on to the comment.

WASHINGTON, DC — April 22, 2021 ― The Senate, in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote, passed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, which was amended to include the Khalid Jabara and Heather Heyer National Opposition to Hate, Assault, and Threats to Equality Act (Jabara-Heyer NO HATE Act). The passage of this bill brings together two complementary legislative proposals to address the current rise in anti-Asian hate and tackles the broader infrastructural improvements needed in hate crimes data collection, reporting, and connection to support services.
