Over 200 organizations expressed their concern regarding the amendments included in the Fiscal Year 2023 House spending bills for the Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services that would legislatively codify and indefinitely prolong the use of the Title 42 policy, which has been used to block and expel asylum seekers and migrants seeking safe haven in the United States. 140 Organizations Send Letter Urging Congress to Reject Attempts to Pass Anti-Black, Anti-Immigrant Legislation
We the undersigned 140 organizations stand with Black communities, and all communities of color in America and at our borders, who have been relentlessly targeted in the media, in the halls of Congress, and tragically, by armed white supremacists. From El Paso to Pittsburgh, and across cities and towns in the U.S., the targeted murder of 10 people in a predominantly Black neighborhood in Buffalo is the latest in a series of tragedies directly inspired by white supremacist ideology.
Privacy rights are civil rights. We write to urge Congress to pass comprehensive consumer privacy legislation during this session that prohibits data-driven discrimination and ensures that everyone has the right to equal opportunity on the internet. As advocates, industry, and stakeholders on all sides of the debate have made clear, now is the time to take up this critical issue.
Asian American Tech Table Letter on Prevention and Elimination of Digital Discrimination
Communities of color are disproportionately negatively impacted by a lack of or insufficient access to broadband.
Today, nondiscriminatory access to digital services and products is a necessity, not a luxury. Policymakers and the public now recognize the importance of digital services and products and broadband access, as vast numbers of essential services and civic institutions have moved online. Congress has spoken: digital discrimination has no place in the United States. The civil rights community stands ready to act as a close partner to the Commission as it undertakes the extremely important task of carrying out Congress’ direction.
