Advancing Justice has been working to eliminate the barriers that have historically resulted in the undercounting and underreporting of Asian Americans and NHPIs in federal data collection and analysis efforts, particularly in the decennial census count. Advancing Justice has conducted comprehensive national, state, and local outreach as well as educational projects focused on Asian American and NHPI communities for Census 2000, Census 2010, and Census 2020.

In defining the metrics of success for engagement for the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program, the NTIA should include the percentage of people who participated in digital equity programs from an organizations’ base membership or audience, rather than just the raw number of people who participated. Many Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) community organizations that work directly with individuals and communities affected by the digital divide are local, grassroots organizations that have a smaller but closely connected community
Julie Su’s career demonstrates how uniquely positioned she is to successfully lead the U.S. Department of Labor. Furthermore, her lived experience as a daughter of immigrants, a woman of color, and an Asian American makes her uniquely qualified to lead the Department charged with the immense task of protecting the livelihoods of all Americans in our vibrant and inclusive democracy.
Asian American Tech Table letter on the creation of broadband consumer labels as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
On behalf of OCA - Asian Pacific American Advocates, Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC,
and the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), we submit our views on Docket No. 22-2
Re. “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Broadband Consumer Labels Notice of Proposed
Rulemaking (NPRM)”.
AAJC letter in response to the FCC notice of proposed rulemaking on digital discrimination
There are very few digital divide studies that include AAPIs in their analysis, and the few that do fail to address the needs and challenges that lower income and non-English speaking groups face, excluding them from the data altogether. Surveys that are conducted only in English and online and that aggregate data of over 20 different ethnicities provide a heavily skewed and misrepresentative perspective on broadband access in our communities.
Asian American Tech Table letter on automated decision practices and commercial surveillance
Automated decision-making pratices can be highly invasive and discriminatory towards
communities of color, including Asian Americans. Online companies’ mass collection of
personal data is used to target consumers with advertisements, content, and recommendations
based on their perceived interests and demographics. This process may introduce bias into the
decision making process, when it shows different individuals different options for housing,
employment, and credit opportunities or reproduces historical pattenrs of bias, it result in illegal
discrimination.
On behalf of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC; thank you for the opportunity to
submit comments regarding the National Telecommunications and Information Administration
(NITA) request for comments on Privacy, Equity, and Civil Rights.
The undersigned organizations—a coalition of Asian American organizations and community groups—submit this comment to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) in response to the proposed rule on the Circumvention of Lawful Pathways, published on February 23, 2023. As a majority immigrant community with deep roots to U.S.
The undersigned 93 civil, human, and immigrant rights groups write to express deep concern with the announcement, and confirmation in the notice of proposed rulemaking, that the Biden administration plans to enhance the use of expedited removal, and to reiterate our opposition to the punitive policies the administration is considering implementing along the border after Title 42 exclusions end. We urge the administration to protect, not undermine, the right to due process and to not build even more barriers to accessing the asylum system.
