Affirmative Action
A small but vocal group of Asian Americans has expressed opposition to affirmative action programs ― particularly at elite colleges and universities ― lodging complaints against Brown, Dartmouth, Yale and Harvard. This group is led by an anti-civil rights legal strategist and funded by the same conservative groups that have sought to eliminate affirmative action over the last two decades.

Students Will Be Allowed to Testify in Defense of Harvard’s Affirmative Action Program in Major Federal Court Case

Today, a Federal judge granted a multiracial group of students’ request to testify in support of Harvard’s affirmative action program. Represented by Asian Americans Advancing Justice and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, these individuals will be the only students speaking in support of Harvard during testimony in the lawsuit challenging Harvard’s race-conscious holistic admissions policy (Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) v. Harvard).

The Advancing Justice Conference will take place Wednesday, April 11 through Friday, April 13 at the Hyatt Regency Washington in Washington, D.C. Affirmative Action looks at who can thrive in the learning environment when given equal opportunity and expands college opportunity beyond those who can claim legacy or affluence in college admissions. Removing affirmative action would hurt many Asian American applicants who continue to face educational barriers. Asian Americans, like all students, benefit from an application process that considers all of each candidate's qualities.
