WASHINGTON, DC – June 29th is the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court of the United States’ decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard/UNC ruling that the limited consideration of race in higher education is unconstitutional. Washington, D.C. – June 29, 2023 – In response to the Supreme Court’s decision today in SFFA v. Harvard and SFFA v. UNC striking down the race-conscious admissions policies at both schools, Asian Americans Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice) denounced the decision as an attack on civil rights and called for an increased commitment from universities and policymakers to ensure equitable opportunities for all students and diversity in higher education.
Democracy will not be denied. The movement to advance civil and human rights and to create equity and racial justice for our communities is a marathon, not a sprint. Often in the heat of the race, we can forget to celebrate our milestones, no matter how big or small they may be on the scales of justice.
