Washington, D.C. — Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC is pleased to announce their selection as a host partner for the 2023 American Council of Learned Societies Leading Edge Fellowship program. Twenty-two nonprofit organizations were selected as hosts for these two-year fellowships, which pair recent PhDs in the humanities and interpretive social sciences with social justice organizations to advance initiatives including campaigns for voting rights, equal access to education, housing justice, and more.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Tomorrow is midterm election day. Across the country, there has been an increase in the sinophobic rhetoric used in political campaigns, particularly to attack Asian Americans running for office. Candidates using sinophobia, a fear or dislike of China, or its people/culture are contributing to and validating anti-Asian racism and hate.
Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act requires certain counties and jurisdictions to provide bilingual voting assistance in communities with large numbers of language minorities and limited-English proficient (LEP) citizens. Mis- and disinformation about elections is harmful to our democracy. If you see content online about elections that could suppress or mislead voters, you can report it. Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act allows voters needing assistance because of blindness, disability, or the inability to read or write, including voters who have difficulty with English, to bring someone (who is not their employer or union representative) into the voting booth to help them understand and cast a ballot.

Sometimes your ballot may not be counted. Ballot counting takes place for days after Election Day, so you may have time to fix some of the problems for why your ballot was not counted.
