WASHINGTON, D.C. — A federal court today issued a decisive ruling in League of Women Voters Education Fund v. Trump, permanently blocking a provision of President Trump’s March voting executive order that sought to add a requirement to show a passport or similar document proving citizenship when registering to vote with the federal voter registration form that would disproportionately impact voters of color.

Callais. The outcome of the case will decide the rights of Black Louisianans to have meaningful civic representation, and to be protected from discriminatory redistricting. NEW YORK — Three civil rights organizations submitted an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court yesterday in support of Native American tribes in North Dakota who sued the state over its unfair redistricting process.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, on the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) led 17 of her Senate colleagues in introducing the Time Off to Vote Act, legislation that would require employers—upon the request of the employee—to provide at least two consecutive hours of paid leave in order to vote in federal elections.

SAVE Act Passage in the House Denounced by Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, a dangerous piece of legislation that creates barriers to voting for millions of Americans. The act requires individuals to show documentary proof of citizenship such as a passport or birth certificate, to register or re-register to vote with the goal of preventing noncitizen voting in federal elections – something that is exceedingly rare because it is already illegal.
