After an announcement that a group of bipartisan senators had struck an immigration deal, Senators Dick Durbin and Lindsey Graham met with the administration to discuss the agreements reached. During that meeting in the Oval Office of the White House, the president made racist comments regarding immigrants from Africa and Haiti while praising those from Norway.

Washington, DC —February 14, 2018 — Today, Republicans offered partisan anti-immigrant proposals for votes. These amendments are nothing more than an immigration reform in disguise while failing to provide a solution for DACA recipients – the real problem that Trump manufactured by ending the program on September 5, 2018.

Washington, DC — February 15, 2018 — Today, the Senate is expected to vote on a compromise that offers a path to citizenship for a large portion of undocumented youth who would qualify for the DREAM Act, but it comes at too high a cost. The latest amendment offered by Senators Mike Rounds and Angus King ends one category of family-based visas, includes $25 billion for border security, and blocks undocumented youth from sponsoring their parents in the future.

December 20, 2018—Washington, D.C.— The President refused to listen to the American people by insisting on a border wall. After the Senate did what the President asked and passed a short term funding bill, Trump turned around and told the House to pass a bill with wall funding under threat of a veto.

Thirteen-year-old Fatima Avelica was on her way to school when ICE agents stopped her father’s car and arrested him. In a video that Fatima recorded from the backseat, she can be heard sobbing as her mother tries to comfort her. “No lloras.” Don’t cry, her mother says sadly. “Tenemos que ser fuerte.” We have to be strong.
The biggest Asian American national conference on civil and social justice took place at the nation’s capital recently. It ended with calls for stepped-up efforts on top concerns: the citizenship question in the 2020 Census, immigration, voting rights and the 2018 midterm elections, and health care.
