After a Bangladeshi national detonated an improvised explosive device Monday morning near a Port Authority bus terminal in New York, calls for an immigration overhaul grew louder — led by President Donald Trump.

"The lottery system and chain migration — we are going to end them fast. Congress must get involved immediately, and they are involved immediately, and I can tell you we have tremendous support, they will be ended," Trump said Tuesday.

Chain migration refers to people sponsoring family members to come to the U.S.

Since the arrival of refugees after the fall of Saigon in 1975, a contingent of Vietnamese-Americans never missed an opportunity to organize against communism.

However, most Vietnamese-American community leaders have remained largely silent as hundreds of Vietnamese-Americans are being detained, to be deported back to the very country they escaped. In addition, thousands continue to live in poverty or suffer from mental illness at higher rates than the American average.

协会政府关系主任陈瑞里(Greg Chen)表示，从其掌握的情况来看，目前白宫和公民及移民服务局都把“链式移民”作为政策改变重点；要通过何种具体政策来“动手”，尚不明确，但砍掉“链式移民”人数，亲属移民类别中的第四类美国公民兄弟姊妹，很可能首当其冲。

不过，陈瑞里也表示，目前并未听到任何谈判中被提出要去除的移民类别的确切消息。
