Washington, DC – April 26, 2021 – The U.S. Census Bureau, released its analysis for apportionment data based on the 2020 Decennial Census as mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC reacts with the following statement to the release of the data that will divide for each state the 435 member seats in the U.S. House of Representatives:
In light of the upcoming delayed release of redistricting data following the 2020 Census, the undersigned groups and individuals unequivocally affirm the basic principle that it is not appropriate to implement electoral district lines based primarily on American Community Survey (ACS) data. Advancing Justice | AAJC Applauds Biden Executive Order
- Contact
Washington, D.C. — January 22, 2021 — President Biden signed an executive order calling for all persons in the country to be counted in state population numbers only hours into his term, rebuking the previous administration’s efforts to weaponize the census for political gain. The move rescinds the July 11, 2020 Presidential Memorandum which sought to exclude undocumented individuals in the apportionment count and Executive Order 13880, issued in July 2019 which sought the creation of a block-level citizen-voting age population dataset.
The undersigned urge President-elect Biden to rescind Executive Order 13380 (July 11, 2019) as soon as possible after he assumes office on January 20. We also urge the Biden Administration concomitantly to direct the Census Bureau to immediately cease all activities to create the block-level database of United States citizenship mandated by that Executive Order.
