Asian Americans Advancing Justice – AAJC submits this comment in response to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) federal register notice regarding the Request for Information; Equitable Data Engagement and Accountability, 87 FR 54269 (September 2, 2022). Asian Americans and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders (NHPIs) comprise vastly diverse racial groups. Without accurate disaggregated data, some of the most disadvantaged in our communities are rendered invisible, leaving their needs unmet.

Advancing Justice – AAJC Issues Statement on the Post-Enumeration Survey Results from the U.S. Census Bureau

Washington, DC — July 21, 2020 The Census Bureau released its first set of results from the 2020 Post-Enumeration Survey (PES), which provides the first measures of accuracy for the 2020 Census. The PES independently surveys a sample of the population to help determine the overall accuracy of the census. Today’s results show that at the national level Asian Americans were overcounted at a rate of 2.62%.

Jurisdictions and Languages that Just Missed Coverage in 2021 Section 203 Determinations

On December 8, 2021, the Census Bureau updated the Section 203 determinations based on 2015- 2019 American Community Survey Data. Part of the federal Voting Rights Act, Section 203 requires jurisdictions designated in the determinations to provide bilingual voting assistance to Asian Americans, Latinos, American Indians and Alaskan Natives. Section 203 determinations, starting with the last one released in 2016, are made every five years based on decennial census data based on American Community Survey data.
