An accurate count of our community in the census is a must, if government services are to be provided to our people and decision-makers are to understand the community's importance.
Known for our acclaimed "Census 2000" campaign, we pursue a fair and accurate census count of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the decennial census and American Community Survey (ACS). Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC also served as an appointed member of the U.S. Secretary of Commerce's 2010 Census Advisory Committee and currently serves as co-chair of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights Census Task Force. We continue to be a major player when it comes to census policy and community outreach.
Our work has led to increasing census research on improving outreach to Asian Americans, particularly those who are limited English proficient - the people who stand to lose the most if they are not accurately represented.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC and its partners launched the Fill in Our Future campaign, which includes a Web site, www.fillinourfuture.org, that provides information in 25 languages, public service announcements, videos, brochures and educational materials to help with community outreach.
